Artists are known to employ artistic license in creating art. We’ll take out elements from a scene that doesn’t appeal to the eyes, or move them around, little nudges here and there to create a good composition. When I painted this beach scene in February, I didn’t paint the many people who were there that day. It was a busy beach day as usual. In fact, there was a man and a woman sitting on this bench. I sketched them into the canvas in the beginning. But the painting developed in a way that it felt better without them. Little did I know that just a few weeks later, this would be the actual scene at the beach due to the beach closures and stay at home orders that resulted from the covid-19 pandemic.
