What’s your favorite cake? Cyndy, my beautiful sister-in-law, once told me that when Chris was little, mom would always have carrot cake for his birthday because that’s his favorite cake. Now, Chris shares my fondness for chocolate cake.
This painting is based on a photo I took from the last time we had carrot cake, which was a while ago. Just as I was finishing up this painting yesterday, Chris arrives from work and comes over to the studio to see what I was working on. He stops, a look of delighted surprise on his face, raises his hand, his index finger stretched out as if he was going to swipe off the icing from the cake. Me: No, it’s not dry, don’t touch it. Him: It’s carrot cake, yum yum. Both of us ended up laughing. Now I know what cake to get for his birthday.
