The day I painted this was not ideal. The house was a mess, nothing seems to be going right, so I was not in the best of mood. That afternoon I was scheduled to paint with a mentor at the gallery. I didn't want to go but husband encouraged me to do so. Me: Fine, it would be good to get out of the house anyway. When I was finally in front of the easel, not exactly sure what to paint, I decided I’m just gonna play today, and chose this reference photo. I paused to pray before starting. Then I felt the shift, there was peace, my joy was back, and I was painting! Frank, my art mentor, was initially skeptical about my choice of subject. He said he never thought he’d be excited about a painting of a child’s bucket but he was thrilled with the finished piece.
